Softball Game Preview: Santa Fe Indians vs. Iowa Colony Pioneers

The Santa Fe Indians will head out on the road to square off against the Iowa Colony Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Fe's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Iowa Colony's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Last Tuesday, Santa Fe got the win against Texas City by a conclusive 14-4. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by eight runs or more this season.

Carlie Hrncir spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Stella Rippard, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Mikayla Nations was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Rippard wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Santa Fe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Iowa Colony fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Texas City last Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Stingarees by a score of 4-3. The Pioneers' loss continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

Santa Fe now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Iowa Colony, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
