Basketball Recap: Verbena Falls Short of Maplesville in the Playoffs

Verbena and Maplesville squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Verbena had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a 63-33 loss at the hands of the Maplesville Red Devils. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against Verbena this season, with their most recent defeat being a 71-26 loss back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Verbena lost, don't look at Caleb Short. Despite the final result, he posted nine points in addition to five rebounds and five blocks. Short has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 20 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kamari Ceasar, who earned seven points and seven boards.

Maplesville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chris Simon, who had 17 points. Nehemiah Mccary was another key player, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Verbena has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Maplesville, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

As of now, neither Verbena nor Maplesville have any future games scheduled.
