Basketball Recap: Harnett Central Takes a Loss

Harnett Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 30-25 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gray's Creek Bears.

When it comes to explaining why Harnett Central lost, don't look at Emma Avery. Despite the final result, she posted 17 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Nataya Brewington also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Among those leading the charge was Layla Fox, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 19 boards. What's more, she posted two assists, the most she's had since back in January. Bailey Bond was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Harnett Central's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Gray's Creek, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-3.

Coming up, Gray's Creek will host Douglas Byrd at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Harnett Central will be paying especially close attention to the Bears' matchup: after the Bears face off against Jack Britt, they'll take on Harnett Central again at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
