Softball Recap: Ferndale Takes a Loss

Ferndale had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-9 to make it six. They lost 11-0 to the Nooksack Valley Pioneers. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Golden Eagles were not able to get on the board.

Ferndale saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amaya Chervenock, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

As for Nooksack Valley, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

On Nooksack Valley's side, Payton Bartl made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Bartl was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Rutgers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Shelby Mason, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Ferndale will head out to face off against Mount Vernon at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Eagles will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests. As for Nooksack Valley, they will face off against Meridian at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Pioneers are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
