Piney Woods gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They came out on top against the McLaurin Tigers by a score of 62-52. The victory was familiar territory for the Tornadoes, who have now won six matchups in a row dating back to last season.
Piney Woods was led to victory by Kemet Edoa and Andrew Djeumen. Edoa shot 92% from the field to rack up 22 points in addition to five boards and four steals, while Djeumen went 7-for-10 on his way to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Natan Malinowski, who posted seven points and five rebounds.
Despite the defeat, McLaurin saw an underclassman step up: sophomore TY Williams scored 19 points along with five assists and three steals. Another player making a difference was KJ Cannon, who shot 63% from the field en route to 13 points.
Piney Woods has already played their next contest, a 57-43 win against Pelahatchie on the 6th. As for McLaurin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-31 victory against Richland on the 7th.
