Basketball Game Preview: Kosciusko Whippets vs. North Pontotoc Vikings

The Kosciusko Whippets will face off against the North Pontotoc Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kosciusko is coming into the match hot, having won their last 16 games.

Last Friday, Kosciusko took their game with ease, bagging a 70-33 win over Caledonia. The Whippets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 contests by 23 points or more this season.

Kosciusko's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cory Guyton Jr, who went 7 of 11 to rack up 18 points. Jaybre Pierce was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to nine assists and five steals.

Kosciusko smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 29 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, North Pontotoc lost to Senatobia on the road by a 74-55 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Warriors are ranked 76th).

Kosciusko's victory bumped their record up to 24-3. As for North Pontotoc, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-21 record this season.
