Basketball Recap: Alexa Simpson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Saguaro over Sahuaro

After flying high against Crismon last Wednesday, Saguaro came back down to earth. The Saguaro Sabercats fell 44-35 to the Sahuaro Cougars on Friday. The Sabercats' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Saguaro's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexa Simpson, who posted 13 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaeda Brown, who had 14 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.

Anissa Garcia had a dynamite game for Sahuaro, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards. With that strong performance, Garcia is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game. Biale Sika was another key player, putting up seven points and three blocks.

Saguaro's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4. As for Sahuaro, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Saguaro will welcome Thunderbird at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sahuaro, they will host Palo Verde at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
