Basketball Recap: Silsbee's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

It was a good run, but Silsbee unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 61-53 to the Lumberton Raiders. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Raiders earlier this season, when they won 70-55.

Despite the loss, Silsbee still got an impressive performance from Jena Warden, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Warden a new career-high in boards. Olevia Mitchell-Vaughn was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

Even though they lost, Silsbee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive matches.

Silsbee's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 17-8. As for Lumberton, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-7.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Jasper the next time they take the court. Lumberton will head out to face Jasper at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Silsbee will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
