Basketball Recap: Columbia Comes Up Short

Columbia played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Bishop Kenny Crusaders 65-20. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while the Crusaders are ranked 26th).

Columbia lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being AYESHA BROXEY, who posted ten points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of ERIEL BAKER, who put up six points.

Makala DesJarlais went supernova for Bishop Kenny, as she made all 6 shots she took to post 21 points. Those 21 points gave DesJarlais a new career-high. Kathleen Crawley was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Columbia dropped their record down to 5-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Bishop Kenny, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Columbia will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gainesville at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Bishop Kenny and Braden River will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on December 27th. Bishop Kenny is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.
