Baseball Recap: Mountain Pointe Comes Up Short

Mountain Pointe was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Notre Dame Prep Saints. That's two games in a row now that the Pride have lost by exactly three runs.

Ivan Lopez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In other pitching news, Mountain Pointe got a good showing from Ja'Kyn Thurman, who pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Furthermore, Thurman didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February.

Lopez wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Luis Acuna, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Luke Mann was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Mountain Pointe's record now sits at 6-13. As for Notre Dame Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-12 record this season.

While Mountain Pointe had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
