Softball Game Preview: Eastlake Falcons vs. Eastwood Troopers

Eastlake is 2-8 against Eastwood since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Falcons will venture away from home to square off against the Troopers at 9:30 a.m. Eastlake will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Eastlake duked it out with Coronado on Wednesday. The Falcons came out on top against the Thunderbirds by a score of 16-11. 16 seems to be a good number for the Falcons as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Charley Solis was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha Ponce, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-5.

Solis wasn't the only one making solid contact: Eastlake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Eastwood fell victim to Socorro and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 1-0. Considering the last time the Troopers couldn't score was back in February, the team can't take the result too hard.

Eastlake pushed their record up to 20-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Eastwood, their loss dropped their record down to 24-4-1.

Eastlake skirted past Eastwood 5-4 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
