Recap: Swansboro Pirates vs. First Flight Nighthawks
The Swansboro Pirates waltzed into their matchup Saturday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They walked away with a 67-60 win over First Flight. Given Swansboro's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while First Flight is ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Swansboro got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacob Nagler out in front who scored 18 points along with five steals. The match was Nagler's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayvion Tangiora, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the loss, First Flight had strong showings from Mason Dobie, who scored 22 points, and Carson Hahne, who scored 17 points. The match was Dobie's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Joe Wagner, who scored six points.
Swansboro's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for First Flight, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
Swansboro is on the road again on Friday and play against Richlands at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. As for First Flight, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Camden County at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Camden County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
