Baseball Recap: Philipsburg-Osceola's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Philipsburg-Osceola dropped their record down to 9-3 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Bellefonte Raiders by a score of 5-4. The Mountaineers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Raiders from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Archer Baughman was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Baughman wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Guenot, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

As for Bellefonte, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. Five seems to be a good number for they as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Like Philipsburg-Osceola, Bellefonte also got a great game from a two-way player: Zach Lehman. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. What's more, Lehman posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Evan Mattern was excellent, going 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Cameron Lucas was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Coming up, Philipsburg-Osceola will be playing in front of their home fans against Bedford at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bisons will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Mountaineers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bellefonte, they will head out on the road to face off against Hollidaysburg at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
