Football Recap: Clover Hill Takes a Loss

Clover Hill extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Friday, dropping them down to 0-7. They were dealt a 42-0 loss at the hands of the L.C. Bird Skyhawks. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 240th, while the Skyhawks are ranked 97th).

Donovan Mayfield threw for 34 yards on eight of 18 attempts. Terrell Lewis Jr was his top target, picking up 33 receiving yards.

As for L.C. Bird, the win got them back to even at 4-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 23 points or more this season.

Tyrell Allen produced another solid effort rushing for 189 yards and four TDs on only 12 carries. He has become a key player for L.C. Bird: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-4 otherwise. Julian Burton helped out on the ground, rushing for 89 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Clover Hill wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 29-26 defeat against Monacan on the 23rd. As for L.C. Bird, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 21-0 victory against Cosby on the 24th.
