Recap: Hoggard Vikings vs. Holly Springs Golden Hawks
The Hoggard Vikings put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 72-22 win over Holly Springs at home. Considering Hoggard has won eight games by more than 24 points this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Hoggard got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tristan Shivers out in front who scored 18 points along with seven assists. The match was Shivers' ninth in a row with at least ten points. Sarah Elgart was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight steals.
Holly Springs' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nylah Collins, who scored six points. Collins scored a full 27.3% of Holly Springs' points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Amy Lissow, who scored four points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Holly Springs struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Hoggard pushed their record up to 9-0 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Holly Springs, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoggard will finish 2023 at home by hosting New Bern at 6:00 p.m. on December 28th. New Bern will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 330th, while Hoggard is ranked 16th). Holly Springs will be home for the holidays to greet Southeast Raleigh at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Southeast Raleigh will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
