Basketball Game Preview: Mount Miguel Matadors vs. Monte Vista Monarchs

The Mount Miguel Matadors will challenge the Monte Vista Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mount Miguel is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season.

On Tuesday, Mount Miguel was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 55-50 to Steele Canyon. The Matadors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Defeat or not, Mount Miguel got some senior leadership from Hamad Elhamad and Jamell Willey. Elhamad went 9 of 12 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds, while Willey went 7 of 12 on his way to 16 points.

Meanwhile, Monte Vista had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.6 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They breezed by the Vaqueros to the tune of 71-37. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-20.

Monte Vista is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Mount Miguel, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Mount Miguel skirted past Monte Vista 43-41 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Does Mount Miguel have another victory up their sleeve, or will Monte Vista turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
