Baseball Recap: Bennett Takes a Loss

If Bennett was feeling good fresh off their 22-2 takedown of Platte Canyon on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers fell 11-7 to the Elizabeth Cardinals on Saturday. The Tigers were not able to make up for their loss to the Cardinals from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Brody Hawes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. He has become a key player for Bennett: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Mathis, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Bennett has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Elizabeth, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.

Bennett didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-4 win against Arvada on the 14th. As for Elizabeth, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-3 victory against Sand Creek on the 16th.
