Basketball Recap: Winside Wildcats vs. Wausa Vikings
Winside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 45-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wausa Vikings. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 37-28 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Ellie Topp and Bridget Marotz certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Topp went 5 for 9 on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds, while Marotz posted ten points along with seven boards and four steals.
Wausa got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Olivia Barta out in front who earned 16 points and five steals. Those 16 points gave Barta a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Dawson, who scored 13 points and five steals.
Winside's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Wausa, their win ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-8.
Coincidentally, both will both be playing Bloomfield the next time they take the court. Winside will head out to face Bloomfield at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while Wausa will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
