Preview: Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets vs. Woodward Academy War Eagles
The Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Woodward Academy War Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Thomas County Central: 8.3, Woodward Academy: 11.3) so any points scored will be well earned.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Thomas County Central had no problem doing just that on Friday. They secured a 13-7 W over the War Eagles.
Trey Brenton was his usual excellent self, rushing for 195 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Woodward Academy and Douglas County (ranked 62 and 72 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest. Woodward Academy had just enough and edged Douglas County out 24-21. Woodward Academy is really starting to get used to good results now that the team's won 11 straight.
Woodward Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ben Grice, who picked up 73 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Landon Walker, who threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Woodward Academy, racking up 11 points in total. All those points came courtesy of Hudson Hanges: he added nine points with three field goals, and another two kicking extra points.
Thomas County Central pushed their record up to 14-0 with that victory, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Woodward Academy, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.
