Williams and Eastern Alamance are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. Williams will take on Eastern Alamance at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Williams has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with six straight losses, while Eastern Alamance will come in with five straight victories.
Last Friday, Williams didn't have quite enough to beat Western Alamance and fell 7-6.
Will Allen was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Hunter Daniels was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Eastern Alamance beat Cedar Ridge 9-6 on Friday.
Zack Merchel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braxton Ballard, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Rett Page, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Eastern Alamance kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 12.8.
Eastern Alamance's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.8 runs. As for Williams, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Everything went Williams' way against Eastern Alamance in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Williams made off with a 15-0 victory. Will Williams repeat their success, or does Eastern Alamance has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
