Centennial and Birdville squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Centennial had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 8-7. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Kendall Cottongame was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lexie Arthur was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 25-8. As for Birdville, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 28-3.

Centennial does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Birdville, they will take on Abilene on Saturday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Hawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
