Softball Game Preview: Carondelet Cougars vs. Monte Vista Mustangs

The Carondelet Cougars will square off against the Monte Vista Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Carondelet will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Carondelet is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 16-15 win over Dublin on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by just one run.

The team relied heavily on Angela Gates, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Norie Umene, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Carondelet was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Monte Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against San Ramon Valley, falling 14-1.

Monte Vista saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Williams, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Carondelet's victory bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Monte Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

Carondelet beat Monte Vista 11-7 in their previous meeting back in March. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
