Basketball Game Preview: Wayne City Indians vs. Mt. Carmel Golden Aces

Wayne City is 0-6 against Mt. Carmel since December of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Wayne City Indians will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces at 7:00 p.m.

Last Saturday, Wayne City lost to North Clay/Clay City on the road by a 42-26 margin. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.1 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Lions 67-35. The Golden Aces have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 games by 23 points or more this season.

Wayne City better focus on containing Maycee Randall and Riley Hershey as the pair were huge in Mt. Carmel's win. Randall dropped a double-double with 21 points and 13 boards, while Hershey went 9 of 18 en route to 19 points and seven assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Stevens, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Mt. Carmel pushed their record up to 24-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 35.7% in those games and 26.4% outside of them. As for Wayne City, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Wayne City took a serious blow against Mt. Carmel when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 56-19. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hershey, who went 9 for 12 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven assists and three steals.
