Softball Recap: Guilford Takes a Loss

Guilford was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Jefferson J-Hawks. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the J-Hawks earlier this season, when they won 4-1.

Ryleigh Matthews was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in hits (three).

On the hitting side, Amiyah Wyrick was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Leah Hunter was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Guilford's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 6-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Guilford will challenge Belvidere at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Jefferson, they will square off against Freeport at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pretzels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.45 runs per game on average), something the J-Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
