The David Crockett Pioneers will take on the Unicoi County Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (David Crockett 2.5, Unicoi County 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Unicoi County will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: David Crockett extended their winning streak to three on Monday. Everything went the Pioneers' way against Grainger as they made off with a 15-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Madelyn Dulaney made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brylee Tullock was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Julie Maupin was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
David Crockett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grainger only posted a batting average of .250.
Volunteer typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Unicoi County proved too difficult a challenge. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Falcons.
Like David Crockett, Unicoi County also got a great game from a two-way player: Lela Byrd. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Byrd was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Higgins, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. She also put up a run, which was her first of the season.
Unicoi County has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for David Crockett, their win bumped their record up to 22-8-1.
David Crockett skirted past Unicoi County 4-2 in their previous meeting on Thursday. Do the Pioneers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
