Soccer Game Preview: Gilbert vs. Aiken

The Gilbert Indians will head out to face off against the Aiken Fighting Green Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gilbert has given up an average of 2.8 goals per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Monday, Gilbert beat Airport 7-5. The win continues a trend for Gilbert in their matchups with Airport: they've now won six in a row.

Meanwhile, Aiken was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. While the 2-2 score might suggest a draw, it was Midland Valley who was credited with the victory. The Mustangs got it done in the shootout by posting two goals to Aiken's one. Aiken fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Midland Valley since on Saturday.

Erick Sambrano and Joaquin Beltran scored both of Aiken's goals, bringing their combined season tally to six goals.

Gilbert's win bumped their record up to 7-10-2. As for Aiken, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.

Gilbert suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Aiken in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
