Baseball Recap: Hillcrest Takes a Loss

Hillcrest managed to slip by Reynolds the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Hillcrest Knights lost 16-4 to the Reynolds Raiders on Thursday. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Hillcrest got a good showing from Miles Ellingson, who tossed four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit.

On the hitting side, Hillcrest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave Smith a new career-high.

Hillcrest's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Reynolds, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

The future could be bright for both Hillcrest and Reynolds: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Hillcrest will look to extend Bishop Kelly's three-game losing streak when they meet at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Similarly, Reynolds will try to hand Caldwell their third-straight loss when the two meet at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
