Basketball Recap: Heritage Academy Comes Up Short

Heritage Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 56-13 loss at the hands of the Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Heroes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while the Spartans are ranked 73rd).

Heritage Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Nancy James, who posted no points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Laila Lopez, who put up six points.

Maeve Morgan was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 13 points, nine boards, and nine steals for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy. That's the most boards Morgan has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashtyn Wolf, who had 15 points and three steals.

Heritage Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, they pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Heritage Academy and Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Heritage Academy and Phoenix Country Day (who has only given up 29.67 points per game) will meet at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Similarly, Scottsdale Preparatory Academy and Rancho Solano Prep (who has only given up 29 points per game) will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
