Baseball Game Preview: Cheraw Braves vs. Chesterfield Golden Rams

The Cheraw Braves will take on the Chesterfield Golden Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Cheraw took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They skirted past York Prep 7-5. The win continues a trend for the Braves in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won six in a row.

Brayden Michael made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Michael wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Byrd, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Chesterfield came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lions, sneaking past 3-1.

The team relied heavily on Sky Courtney, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Chesterfield's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't).

Cheraw's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Chesterfield, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.

Cheraw took their win against Chesterfield in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 16-2 score. Do the Braves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
