Baseball Game Preview: Salem Hills Skyhawks vs. Orem Tigers

For the second straight game, Salem Hills will face off against Orem. The Skyhawks will face off against the Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Salem Hills headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Orem let them put that streak behind them. The Skyhawks walked away with a 12-9 victory over the Tigers on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Skyhawks as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Dom Jex made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Salem Hills is 2-1 when Jex allows one or fewer earned runs, but 1-7 otherwise. Jex was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Talon Cloward, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5. Trey Mitchell was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

Salem Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Salem Hills' record is now 3-8. As for Orem, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.
