Football Game Preview: Canisius Crusaders vs. Steubenville Big Red

The Canisius Crusaders are taking a road trip to challenge the Steubenville Big Red at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Canisius is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Bishop Timon-St. Jude: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Crusaders blew the Tigers out of the water with a 56-7 final score. That looming 56-7 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Crusaders yet this season.

Elijah Kimble was his usual excellent self, rushing for 127 yards and three scores on only 15 carries, while also picking up 40 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Jack Cullinan, who picked up 58 receiving yards and one TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Canisius was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 233 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Timon-St. Jude only rushed for 137.

Canisius' defense stepped up as well, laying out Marquis Harris three times. Leading the way was Quentin Littleton with two sacks. Another thorn in Bishop Timon-St. Jude's side was Jaylen Hawkins, who made six total tackles (1.0 for loss) and snagged an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Steubenville waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They took down the Steelers 40-24.

Canisius now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Steubenville, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
