La Cueva (Albuquerque, N.M.) senior tailback
Ronnie Daniels set a state record Friday night during a 45-12 football victory over Mayfield.
The Texas Tech recruit scored four times to give him 83 rushing touchdowns during his brilliant four-year career. He had entered the game with 79, which had tied the record held by Fort Sumner’s Lance Fikany, according to the Las Cruces Sun-News.
The 6-foot-2, 198-pound Daniels ran 23 times for 210 yards and scored on runs of 1, 22, 29 and 58 yards. He also made a pair of interceptions.
Mayfield coach Michael Bradley told the News-Sun, “We couldn’t tackle him. We did a terrible job and he broke every tackle.”
