Baseball Game Preview: Lakeland Christian Vikings vs. George Jenkins Eagles

The Lakeland Christian Vikings will take on the George Jenkins Eagles in a tournament on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lakeland Christian took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Victory Christian Academy. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Storm: they've now won five in a row.

Nathan Diaz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Alex Arthur looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Peyton Brenneman, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brooks Blankenship, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, George Jenkins was not the first on the board last Tuesday, but they got there more often. They put the hurt on Lakeland with a sharp 9-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Junior Jacquez looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, George Jenkins let Brayden Abdon and Bryce Vern run wild. Abdon scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Vern scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Those runs were Vern's first of the season. Sebastian Phakousonh was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

George Jenkins' victory bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Lakeland Christian, their win bumped their record up to 15-6.
