Basketball Recap: John Rice's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Destin over Franklin Road Academy

If Destin was feeling good fresh off their 66-36 takedown of Alabama Aerospace and Aviation last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Destin Sharks received a blow on Saturday as they fell 54-40 to the Franklin Road Academy Panthers.

Destin lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being John Rice, who posted eight points. What's more, Rice also racked up three rebounds, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Cullen Mccune was another key player, putting up six points.

Destin now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Franklin Road Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-8 record this season.

Destin and Whitefield Academy will round out the year against one another at at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Destin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season. As for Franklin Road Academy, they will take on Bartram Trail in a tournament on Monday. Bartram Trail will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Franklin Road Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
