Basketball Game Preview: Lawrence Academy Warriors vs. Halifax Academy Vikings

The Lawrence Academy Warriors will be taking part in a tournament against the Halifax Academy Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Lawrence Academy had to start their season on the road on Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 55-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Faith Christian. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Patriots 13-4 in the first quarter.

Lawrence Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Winston Warren, who shot 47% from the field to rack up 18 points and four steals, and Carter Hoggard, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards. Hoggard has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Cade Oliver was another key player, putting up seven points.

Meanwhile, Halifax Academy lost to Southampton Academy at home by a 51-33 margin on Tuesday.

Despite the defeat, Halifax Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Luke Corum posted 11 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Christy, who had six points in addition to six rebounds and four blocks.

Everything came up roses for Lawrence Academy against Halifax Academy in their previous meeting back in January, as the squad secured a 72-41 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
