Scotty Crowe made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had over his last five games. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Crowe wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Cavo, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Cavo has posted since back in February. Another was Derek Dohler, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
St. John Paul II Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as ABF Academy Homestead only posted a batting average of .240.
Meanwhile, Taravella didn't have quite enough to beat Archbishop McCarthy on Tuesday and fell 4-3. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like St. John Paul II Academy, Taravella also got a great game from a two-way player: Anthony Toizol. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Toizol was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
St. John Paul II Academy's victory bumped their record up to 13-4-1. As for Taravella, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. John Paul II Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445.
