Basketball Game Preview: Westlake Lions vs. East Coweta Indians

The Westlake Lions will square off against the East Coweta Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Westlake knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully East Coweta likes a good challenge.

Westlake is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Spencer, posting an 86-53 victory. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Greenwave are ranked 142nd), the result on Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, East Coweta was fully in charge on Monday, breezing past Stephenson 87-49. That looming 87-49 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Indians yet this season.

East Coweta's win came from a few key players Westlake will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Harper Rife, who went 7 of 14 en route to 22 points and five assists. His morning made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Qwes Williams was another key player, going 7 for 12 on his way to 19 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.

East Coweta was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

East Coweta is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points per game. As for Westlake, their win bumped their record up to 13-6.

Westlake strolled past East Coweta in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a score of 78-59. Will Westlake repeat their success, or does East Coweta have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
