Preview: Southwest Raiders vs. Arlington Heights Yellowjackets

Southwest has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Arlington Heights Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southwest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 751st, while Arlington Heights is ranked 341st).

Last Thursday, Southwest had to suffer through a rough 40-7 loss at the hands of Grapevine. Southwest gained 82 more yards on the day, but it was Grapevine that made the best of use of them.

Southwest's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jahbori Cooper-suttice, who rushed for 121 yards on only 12 carries, and Martavious Boswell who rushed for 130 yards. Cooper-suttice was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards.

Meanwhile, Arlington Heights unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They were dealt a 42-7 defeat at the hands of Colleyville Heritage. Having soared to a lofty 69 points in the game before, Arlington Heights couldn't push the score so high this time.

Despite the loss, Arlington Heights saw an underclassman step up: Carson James rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Southwest's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-1 Colleyville Heritage and 6-1 Wyatt (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.3% over those games). As for Arlington Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.

Southwest suffered a grim 34-12 defeat to Arlington Heights in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Southwest, Brian Furch (who rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
