The Legacy Charter Eagles will take on the City of Life Christian Academy Warriors in a holiday battle at at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Legacy Charter's defense has only allowed 23.2 points per game this season, so City of Life Christian Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Legacy Charter is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Discovery just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They were dealt a 52-23 loss at the hands of the Spartans. The match marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite the defeat, Legacy Charter had strong showings from Ashlyn Kraus, who went 6 for 14 on her way to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, and Faith Roop, who posted two points. That was a full 69.6% of Legacy Charter's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask City of Life Christian Academy). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Trinity Christian Academy 56-2. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 33 points or more this season.
City of Life Christian Academy's win came from a few key players Legacy Charter will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mia Garcia, who had eight points in addition to ten steals and five assists. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 30 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Squires, who went 8 of 15 on her way to 19 points.
City of Life Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive matches.
City of Life Christian Academy now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Legacy Charter, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Legacy Charter has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like City of Life Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
