Newport put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Asotin Panthers with a sharp 51-28 win. This was payback for the Grizzlies, who suffered a 28-14 defeat the last time these two teams met.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Kutter Driver and Jacob Reimers. Driver rushed for 197 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry while Reimers rushed for 160 yards and three scores while picking up 10.0 yards per carry.
Newport didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Asotin to a completion percentage of just 50%. The Grizzlies weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 100%.
When it comes to explaining why Asotin lost, don't look at Cody Ells. Despite the final result, he rushed for 308 yards and four TDs while picking up 14.7 yards per carry.
Newport's record is now 5-0. As for Asotin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
