Softball Game Preview: East Dragons vs. Springfield Spartans

The East Dragons will take on the Springfield Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. East comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Monday just wasn't the day for East's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-0 to Aquinas, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Meanwhile, Springfield narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Coventry 7-6. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Comets: they've now won three in a row.

Joey Klein spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bre Ruggiero was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Melaena Martin was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Springfield lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

East's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Springfield, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.
