Basketball Recap: Gateway Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After a string of three wins, Gateway's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 81-64 to the Lehigh Lightning. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 63-58 back in December of 2024.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Andrew Leopold, who went 8 of 18 en route to 22 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Leopold has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was EJ Monteagudo, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 boards.

Gateway's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-7. As for Lehigh, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-1.

Gateway will host Bonita Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gateway has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 193 points over their last three matchups. As for Lehigh, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 81-56 defeat against Central on the 18th.
