Basketball Recap: Walsh Takes a Loss

Walsh was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against the La Veta Redhawks, falling 67-42. The Eagles were down 52-30 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Walsh still got an impressive performance from Averi Kunselman, who posted nine points and seven rebounds. Yaneidi Calzada was another key player, putting up eight points.

Even though they lost, Walsh smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

La Veta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aspen Autry, who went 6-for-15 to rack up 17 points along with three steals and three blocks. Jazlynn Valdez also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Walsh's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for La Veta, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Looking ahead, Walsh will challenge Moscow at 3:00 p.m. on February 21st. As for La Veta, they will square off against South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] at 2:00 p.m. on February 21st.
