Softball Game Preview: Marbury Bulldogs vs. Brewbaker Tech Rams

The Marbury Bulldogs will venture away from home to square off against the Brewbaker Tech Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Brewbaker Tech took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Marbury, who comes in off a win.

While Marbury's win against Bibb County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out the Choctaws 4-3. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Choctaws: they've now won four in a row.

Elizabeth Woodfin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sara Roeten, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Brooklan Popwell, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Brewbaker Tech was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 12-2 to Holtville. That's two games in a row now that the Rams have lost by exactly ten runs.

Brewbaker Tech saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Heleyna Pennic, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Reese Woody also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Brewbaker Tech's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Marbury, their win bumped their record up to 7-15.

Marbury couldn't quite finish off Brewbaker Tech in their previous matchup back in March and fell 8-6. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
