Baseball Recap: Fenwick Gets the Win

Fenwick's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Saint Ignatius College Prep Wolfpack 4-3. That's more bragging rights for the Friars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Fenwick got a great performance from Matt Purta as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. The Friars are 3-1 when Purta allows one or fewer earned runs, but 4-6-1 otherwise.

Fenwick has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Fenwick will head out to square off against Riverside-Brookfield at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Friars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, they will host Chicago University at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
