Basketball Game Preview: Springville Red Devils vs. Wasatch Wasps

The Springville Red Devils will take on the Wasatch Wasps in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Springville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season.

Springville will head out to face Wasatch after giving up their first home loss of the season on Tuesday. Springville fell just short of Clearfield by a score of 43-40. The matchup marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Natalie Florence, who posted 11 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Halle Hall, who had eight points.

Meanwhile, Wasatch faced Corner Canyon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Wasatch was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 55-54 to Corner Canyon.

The match pitted two dominant centers against one another in Mahala Speredon and Aubrey Mulitalo. Mulitalo had a solid game and put up 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Meanwhile, Speredon did her best for the losing side, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Wasatch's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2. As for Springville, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Springville has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Wasatch struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Springville came up short against Wasatch in their previous meeting back in February, falling 44-34. Can Springville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
