Football Recap: Pope John XXIII Comes Up Short

Pope John XXIII played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Paramus Catholic Paladins, falling 33-8. Pope John XXIII was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Paramus Catholic apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Luke Irwin threw for 89 yards on seven of 17 attempts. Prince Joshua was his top target, picking up 58 receiving yards. On the ground, Luke Gialanella rushed for 41 yards and one TD.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Paramus Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Achylles Dupont, who rushed for 57 yards and three scores, and also picked up 78 receiving yards and one touchdown. Marco Green was another key player, having thrown for 331 yards and two touchdowns.

Pope John XXIII's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Paramus Catholic, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pope John XXIII will face off against Kellenberg Memorial at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Paramus Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Iona Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
