Basketball Preview: Montrose Red Hawks vs. Grand Junction Tigers
Montrose is 10-0 against the Tigers since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Montrose Red Hawks will look to defend their home court against the Grand Junction Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Montrose is ranked 39th, while the Tigers are ranked 63rd).
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Montrose beat the Warriors 48-43. The win made it back-to-back wins for Montrose.
Montrose's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brekin Hutto led the charge by scoring 13 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Ferguson, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Grand Junction came up short against the Wildcats on Tuesday and fell 43-30. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Grand Junction in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost four in a row.
Montrose's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Grand Junction, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.
Montrose was able to grind out a solid victory over the Tigers when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 54-47. Does Montrose have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
