Baseball Recap: Pius XI Catholic Takes a Loss

After flying high against West Allis Central on Wednesday, Pius XI Catholic came back down to earth. The Popes took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Milwaukee Rockets on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Popes of the 6-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Mikal Penn was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Pius XI Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for South Milwaukee, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-7 record.

Looking ahead, Pius XI Catholic will welcome New Berlin Eisenhower at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Milwaukee, they will venture away from home to face off against Greenfield at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hustlin' Hawks will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Rockets surely won't give up without a fight.
