Basketball Recap: Highland Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Highland had won three straight home games and Jesus Licon did his part to make it four on Friday. The Highland Hornets narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Valencia Jaguars 68-66 thanks in part to Licon, who went 9 for 17 en route to 31 points and five assists. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game.

The team also got some help courtesy of William Hood, who posted seven points. Those seven points gave him a new career-high.

Highland's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 10-11. As for Valencia, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland will face off against St. Pius X at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Highland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season. As for Valencia, they will host Belen at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Belen knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Valencia likes a good challenge.
